About Me

As far as I’m concerned, no one likes evaluating him or herself.  Well, at least no one in his or her right mind likes doing it.  People have all sorts of insecurities when it comes to writing self-reflections, especially if other people will eventually read them.  I have even heard of people lying on anonymous surveys, so there is no doubt that many have a hard time being truthful when writing something like an “About Me” page.  They express only what they want people to know about themselves, not what would scare people off.  Think of it like a resume.  Simply put, no one is going to be self-deprecating on an “About Me” page.  It is not like I am surprised by any of this, and I do understand why this is the case; however, I am simply contending that readers must go beyond this page to truly learn about a writer, especially with something like this Eportfolio.

I do not at all believe that I am immune to such flaws.  Sometimes I find myself in the same exact boat when reflecting.  It is hard to keep insecurities out of the picture when writing about oneself, but a reflection piece is not the only way to learn about someone.  Readers can learn about a writer through many different forms of writing.  That is why this portfolio, along with all the others on the writing minor blog, is filled with different styles and types of writing.  The “About Me” page always aims to be interesting and enticing, but it is not always truthful.  My hope is that anyone navigating through my portfolio will be able to learn about me through my various efforts as a writer.  Nonetheless, this reflection is now one of those efforts as well.  For that reason, I will attempt to briefly tell you about myself in a way that cannot be seen in my other pieces on this page:

I am twenty years old.

I am the first member of my family to leave New York for college.

I am a great good decent terrible writer (I’ll let you decide).

I am no longer cute whilst making funny faces (see above photos).
